Quotes to Compete

"Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising every time we fall."

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Organization and Audience

About:
After writing about women's sports at Sports Illustrated for 7 years, I now work for the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS). In 1972, Title IX was passed and since then the involvement of women in athletics has increased tremendously.

Young ladies and women are more confident participating in athletics today, but our organization believes participation can still be increased in each competitive level. These levels include recreation, high school, collegiate, and professional athletics.

Women participating in Collegiate Athletics continue to work hard and are being rewarded for their victories. Athletic Directors of Colleges/Universities need to be aware of the strides women are taking in sport and need to be notified of the achievements of women athletes. Women Collegiate Athletes are succeeding in many sports such as hockey, basketball, softball, tennis, swimming etc.

Incentives:
With the recent success of the United States Women's Soccer Team, we hope many women athletes became inspired.

Abby Wambach's leadership both on and off the field is inspirational for young ladies in athletics as well as women. We hope with the recent success of the U.S. Women's soccer team, women athletes of all ages will be re-inspired and determined to participate in sport.
